A soft opening of the brand new La Salle Students' Activities Centre was the order of the day when the Association of Ex-Students of La Salle and Sacred Heart organized their 2004 Christmas Open House from 11.00am to 3.00pm on Sunday, 26th December 2004.
Among the distinguished guests who attended this merry occasion were the Tuan Yang Terutama Yang Di-Pertua Negeri Sabah, Tun Datuk Seri Panglima Haji Ahmadshah Abdullah and his consort, Toh Puan Masuyah Japar. The TYT is an ex-La Sallian from the year of 1967 and it was timely that the Christmas get together was an occasion for him to catch up with the latest news on his classmates.
In his welcoming speech, the President of the Alumni Association, Herman Yee, acknowledged with pride the willingness of the TYT and his consort to take time off their busy schedules to attend events relating to his Alma Mater. To this end, the TYT was given a short tour of the Student Activities Centre culminating with a visit to the La Salle Archive.
A short impressive presentation of the activities of the Archive (Past, Present and Future) was made by Mr. Leonard Chin at the La Salle Repository, where the TYT was apprised of the ongoing scanning of past records/documents of the La Salle School and its students (past and present). La Salle School of Kota Kinabalu is apparently the first and only school among all the La Sallian schools in the world to have undertaken this project.
Datuk Brother Charles O'Leary, in showing TYT around the Archive proper, attributed the existence and success of the Archive to dedicated La Sallians, who had sacrificed time and efforts when called upon to do so. During the tour, the TYT was shown a special presentation of his Class of 1967, showing pictures of a youthful TYT and the activities that have been undertaken by his classmates to date.
Prior to his departure, the TYT was given a short preview of the Alumni's next ambitious project, which is the erection of the Alumni's very own building.
The Organizing Committee of the Alumni's Christmas Open House 2004 under the Organizing Chairman, Ernesto Faurillo, would like to acknowledge and thank all the generous sponsors, who have contributed towards the success of the open house.
