LA SALLE ALUMNI BUILDING
Sri Murni Apartments Investment by
The Association of Ex-Students of La Salle & Sacred Heart

Good News to all the La Salle fraternity all over the World !!!
The La Salle Alumni has recently made a significant investment in the purchase of Sri Murni Apartments. It is located at No. 11, Jalan Murni, exactly opposite the present La Salle Senior Block in Tanjung Aru, Kota Kinabalu, Sabah, Malaysia.

In 2004, the La Salle Alumni lead by the then President Mr. Herman Yee Nyuk On wanted to have a constant source of fund for the Alumni and was looking for a place to have a permanent secretariat. There was an endeavor to source for land to build its own building. This proved to be unsuccessful. Then the proposal to purchase the La Salle Brothers property surfaced in 2006. Reverend Datuk Brother Charles O’Leary acted as a go-between for the La Salle Brothers and the La Salle Alumni. The present owner is our very own La Salle Provincialiate who had agreed to sell to the La Salle Alumni at RM1.74 million in 2006. Mr. Herman Yee was also instrumental in the negotiation for the special price and terms of payment with Mr. John Loh Soong Chew who acted on behalf of the La Salle Brothers.

This investment went through serious deliberations, debates and discussions for more than two years before being approved by the Executive Committee and members of the Alumni at its Annual General Meeting held on 3rd May 2008. Finally, it was agreed that this would be a significant and worthwhile investment for the Alumni. The following factors had been considered:-

  • While acknowledging that it would be a challenge to obtain the financial means to purchase the Sri Murni Apartments, the rental generated from the building would mean regular income for the Alumni,
  • Regular rental income would further contribute towards the financial needs and the activities of the Alumni,
  • With increased funds, the Alumni will be in a better position to consider offering financial assistance to deserving children of life members of the Alumni and also to the present students of La Salle & Sacred Heart, Kota Kinabalu,
  • Establish a permanent secretariat for the Alumni for its meetings & related activities.

The overall objectives are consistent with the La Sallian spirit of giving and sharing to foster holistic and continuous learning for the young people in the local community.

The Alumni had signed the Sales and Purchase Agreement on 8th June, 2009 and made the first payment of RM174, 000.00. The terms of payment are RM200, 000.00 per year for the next 4 years, with the final payment of RM766, 000.00 on the fifth year. It was agreed that one (1) unit of the apartment will be allocated to the Alumni when any one (1) unit is available.
The present market value of the Sri Murni apartments is estimated to be RM2.3 million. This means that our building has appreciated in value and therefore, we had certainly made a good investment. The full details of the property are attached.

We now call upon all La Sallians / Heartians past and present to give their fullest support to this initiative to raise funds for the next 5 years. Your contribution whether big or small will count in making the Sri Murni investment a reality. We know we can count on your support !!!

LET’S CONTINUE TO MAKE …………. “LA SALLE IS SOMETHING MORE” !!!
